Dominican Republic > Cabarete

SurferDream can offer you 2 different locations to spend your surf holiday.

  • The Encuentro surf apartements are located at Encuentro and within a few minutes walk to the main surf spot.

  • The Caribbean Surf camp is located further away from the surf spots but closer to town

About the town:
Cabarete with it's beautiful bay full of watersport enthousiasts. At night, this bay turns in to the ultimate party place, with restaurants, bars and clubs located directly on the beach.

CabareteThis destination is the perfect choice for you whether you are in a travelling in a large group or bravely going it alone.........the friendliness of this town is legendary.

The Dominican Republic, located in the caribbean, sits between between Cuba and Puerto Rico, covering 2/3 of the island of Hispanolia. Cabarete is a true watersport paradise, located on the north coast, close to the international airport of Puerto Plata (POP), just 20 minutes away. You will love the hospitality and friendliness of the Dominican people - 'localism' is not present here!

The main surf spot for people in Cabarete is the lovely Playa Encuentro, a short 5 minute drive west of town; When you stay at he Encuentro surf apartements the beach is a 2 minute walk , for people that prefer the surf camp it's a 5-10 minute drive away.

The break is great for beginners, intermediates and experts alike. One of the great features of Encuentro is it's consistency, it rarely goes flat. Wave sizes vary from shoulder high to double overhead.

Don't think that surfing is limited to only the Cabarete area - for advance surfers, secret spots and off-shore reefs abound and let's not forget Preciosa (pictured above), a breathtakingly pristine surf spot, which on its day, will rival any other surf break in the world.

The Weather........

Its warm all year round! Air and water temperatures never drop below 20 degrees celcius (72 Fahrenheit). So leave your wetsuit behind, you won't even need a shortie here, just a rash vest and lots of sunscreen!

Surf Season.......

All year round, but winter has bigger north swells, for the more experienced surfers. As mentioned above, the surf rarely goes flat and for beginners Encuentro has a great safe area.

Getting there:

The best airport to fly into is Puerto Plata (airport code POP). JetBlue does direct flights from New Yrok, for budget fares. AA flies directly from Miami to POP also pretty cheap. From europe there's a number of charters that gohere on a regular basis.

“When I saw that there's surf in the DR i thought i'd give it a shot.I and was hoping and expecting to find some shoulder high waves, needless to say I was very pleasantly surprised when we got to Preciosa and it was 2 x overhead, glassy and perfect with only 5 other guys out there.
Some of the best waves of my life
